A good shot is in the eyes of.. the professional? --- pride stops you from growing

I was having photography workshop on thurs, then i showed my lecturer the photographs to get some feedback and good advice. Now, I know that on the overall, whether is it wind, speed, motion or reflection I did a bad job and didnt have enough to do a full presentation. Then he took out one of my shot that I happened to accidentally shake my hand when I was taking it and guess what. Click here

My lecturer is quite hard on the comments of the photo. (well that's the only way we can learn) However, when he saw this photo he said that the composition, colour and effect all goes together and it can be a artpiece! I was shocked. I took the effort to get the required motion in a roll of 36 films and the only good one is actually the "mistake" shot.
(That means I have to re-do my assignment 1!!!! - yikessss)

Maybe I should make more mistakes and think less when I'm shooting.

I was reading a photo blog then this photographer was describing his conversation with a amatuer, or you may say self proclaimed amatuer photographer. The "amatuer" was asking if his photos were great.

Amatuer: "Hey these photos are great right?"
Professional: " let me see"
Amatuer: "I'm learning how to take artistic photos"
(Eileen: hahahahhahahahahahaha!!)
Professional: "okay, you could improve this by reducing the aperture to get this effect"
Amatuer: "Hey hey you know this photo, is really great!"
Professional: "its an alright photo"
Amatuer: "huh.. are you sure?"
Professional: -glances and walk away-

Haha I realised that pride really obstructs us from learning more. Especially when we think we are already good, we tend to be so full of ourselves that we block out people's comment. I went on to check the "Amatuer's" photo to see if their really good. Then i realised that the shots are not more than ordinary. That teaches me a lesson though -- be humble to learn!

"Photography can never grow up if it imitates some other medium. It has to walk alone, it has to be itself" --- Bernice Abbott (American photographer, 1898 - 1991)
