Chinese New Year or Christmas?

Was at Chinatown a few days ago, trying to soak in the Chinese New Year atmosphere. I think after the walk, my ears are ringing..

"Xing nian dao.. dong dong dong dong qiang.."

"Ying chun hua kai ren ren ai..ying chun hua ah chu chu kai, ah xin fu xin fu lai.."

(-_-")

I think i prefer Christmas songs. At least I'll be hearing Jazzy tunes like..

"I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.."

"And every mother's child is gonna spy, to see if reindeer really know how to fly.."

The good thing about Chinese New Year is we'll receive lots and lots of ang bao, eat lots of good food, and get to meet family members who are almost an alien to us. However, I find Christmas more meaningful because Christmas is not about counting the ang baos we collected, but its about giving. I like the atmosphere of Christmas, (People always say that its the 'season of love' don't they?) a cool winter (aw, we dun have 4 seasons), lovely and peaceful feeling. New Year is a little more noisy and rowdy, where politics within the family are surfaced.

I used to dread Chinese New Year, but I think meeting the "long lost" cousins and being able to taste grandma's cooking have somehow overcome this fear.

Now Chinese New Year is just a day away..
Hello to ba kuas and mandarin oranges!
That reminds me I've got to pick up a few '4 word 4 word' chim chim greetings.
What else can we say besides "gong xi fa ca, hong bao na lai".
